Today's Combo on Combo of the Week is "12's s.mk > super"

Today's game is about Street Fighter III: Third Strike. The character being discussed is the arguably the worst in the game, but a personal favorite of mine.

Normally, Twelve's standing medium kick (s.mk) is not cancelable to special moves or supers. However it is super jump (sj) cancelable. You activate the sj cancel but pressing down-up after the mk hits (whether it hits or is blocked doesn't matter because you can still sj cancel, but if you're parried, you're gonna be in big shit). How you can "abuse" the lenient system of Third Strike (3S) is that you can perform a 360 motion on the joystick starting from the down position. So make a full circle from down to right to up to left to down. This will activate sj cancel because you still press down-up, so it registers as a sj. If you notice, in the circle you move from down to right. All of Twelve's supers need the motion quarter-circle forward (QCF) twice for the super. Thus the 360 motion registers as both a sj cancel and also one QCF's of the two QCF's need for a super. So to complete the s.mk cancel to a super, all you have to do is add an extra QCF after your circle ends at the down position. So you should end on the right position and simultaneously press punch or kick (depending on the chosen super) and voila, s.mk cancel to super. While Twelve's supers 1 and 3 are cancelable by other means, super 2 is not since it is air-activation only. Thus the sj cancel allows Twelve to jump in the air and cancel into the super while the opponent is in hit-stun (assuming the mk connects) and making it a true combo.

In theory it's quite a simple concept. In writing, it seems quite complicated. In reality, it is damn near impossible depending on the situation.

Vince Notes: Good luck getting this combo in. You'll have a better chance with the first Super. The second super is quite difficult. The third super is relatively useless so it doesn't matter whether you combo into it or not.
